  • Overview

    Twenty-four hour a day management responsibility and accountability for nursing care delivery, human resources, operations, financial, and total quality improvement for the Emergency Department, Urgent Care and Emergency Managment.

    Responsibilities/Job Description

    • Utilizes a value based method when recruiting, interviewing, and selecting qualified employees
    • Participates in formal retention and recognition activities
    • Develops position descriptions/evaluations/essential functions for all job categories utilizing staff input
    • Develops and implements department specific orientation / education / competency programs
    • Communicates clear, concise expectations and demonstrates accountability for employee performance by coaching, mentoring, and initiating disciplinary action when appropriate
    • Promotes and role models teamwork and positive working relationships
    • Establishes and maintains current policies and procedures for the department


    • Registered Nurse with Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, or demonstrates willingness to pursue degree within 2 years.
    • Minimum of five years direct patient care experience in Emergency Nursing. Minimum of three years management/leadership experience required.
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in management, leadership and quality/safety improvement.
    • Graduation from a professional school of nursing required
    • Master's Preferred
    • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota required
    • ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 certifications required, or willingness to acheive within 2 months. Basic Life Support. Advanced Life Support. Pediatric Advanced Life Support. TNCC.
    • Expertise in the area of emergency management preferred. Demonstrate willingness to acheive ICS 300 and 400 certifications.
    • Certification in Nursing Specialty. Instructor status in any required training.
