    40-64 per pay period

    Under the direction of a Registered Nurse; the Unit Assistant (UA) provides direct and indirect quality patient centered care. Performs supportive nursing care appropriate to the age of patients served; i.e. physical hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, socialization, observation, safety, and emotional and physical comfort needs. Answers call lights, telephones, and relays messages to appropriate personnel. The UA maintains a safe and clean working environment. The UA completes patient-centered care by meeting both the psychological and physical needs of the patients and ensures optimal care and service in accordance with providers orders, The Joint Commission, nursing and departmental guidelines.

    Responsibilities/Job Description

    • Assists in implementation of the plan of care under the direction of an RN including but not limited to activities of daily living such as dressing, toileting, personal hygiene, bathing, and oral cares, eating and drinking.
    • Answers telephone; relays messages promptly and accurately.
    • Accepts responsibility for completion of orientation.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • One year of previous work experience as a nursing assistant preferred.
    • Current BLS certification or attends BLS class within 3 months of employment and maintains certification. Current BCS or acquires within three months of employment and maintains certification.
    • Graduation from a nursing aide program preferred.
    • Knowledge of computers and word processing preferred.
    • Must be able to complete clerical component of Unit Assistant orientation provided by facility. Demonstrates ability to learn and retain medical information and terms. Capable of functioning under pressure and in stressful situations. Give and receive information. Understand and follow written and oral communications. Manages personal stress and emotions to respectfully interact with others. Maintains composure in difficult situations. Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
