  • Overview

    Position is days and on-call; weekend on-call.  Flex shift 0.6-0.8.

     

    Provides peri-anesthesia nursing care to patients undergoing operative or other invasive procedures in the Same Day Surgery, PACU and Radiology departments. Strong critical care skills, experience with conscious sedation and the ability to act quickly in an emergency are some of the attributes needed for this position. RN demonstrates competency with IV insertion and maintenance. RN provides patient and family education ensuring understanding. RN provides emotional support to patients and families during these high anxiety events in their lives. The RN works collaboratively with anesthesiologists, surgeons and radiologists. The RN is expected to be able to function independently with tasks such as feeding tube, foley catheter, and transport of critical patients. Current knowledge of medications, including anesthetic agents is a must. The RN must maintain a professional composure in a fast paced, detail oriented environment presenting a calm demeanor to the patient and family at all times.

    Responsibilities/Job Description

    • Performs a total systems assessment according to established policies (including physical, psychosocial and spiritual data) upon admission, as well as ongoing assessments.
    • Analyzes assessment data, identifies problems and develops the plan of care in collaboration with the patient, significan other and resource personnel.
    • Provides age specific direct patient care in collaboration with all disciplines according to standards of care.
    • Recognizes and reports adverse patient condition to the physician in a timely manner.

    Qualifications

    • Current Minnesota RN licensure.
    • Two years recent critical care experience (within the last three years) or two years of recent Med/Surg experience (within the last three years) including one year of telemetry and cardiac monitoring.
    • Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification.
    • Current PALS certification or attains certification within 3 months of employment and maintains certification.
